COMMISSIONS FAQ

I make commissioned sketches as my schedule allows.

Q. What do you charge for a commission?

I charge $250 for the sketch of a single building/structure portrait.  I require a $50 deposit upon booking. If you request changes to the sketch after it is completed, I charge $50 per hour. If you require your sketch to be mailed to  you or another recipient, shipping and handling is an extra charge.

Q. What type of materials do you use to make the sketch?

Typically the sketch is made on 9x12 hot press watercolour paper.  Sometimes I will use a different size paper if the subject warrants it. I’m always exploring new tools! I use any combination of watercolour, ink, aquarelle pencils, gel pens, paint pens, brush pens, and whatever implements I discover in art stores.

Q. Do you work from photographs?

Sometimes I work from photos; sometimes I sketch on location. If I work from photos, please send a number of high-quality photos from different angles. In advance of my working on the sketch we will discuss objects that you would like to have included, as well as objects that you would prefer to not be in the sketch.  This includes things such as trees, plants, ornaments, poles, fences, furniture etc.  I try to include as many items that are requested, as long as they work with the composition. Note: I do not print or add calligraphy, such as titles and labels, on the sketches (i.e. "Our First Home", "222 Second Ave. Anytown" etc.)

Q. How do you define your style?

My style is whimsical and playful, and not photorealistic.  The lines are often curved and angled, and the paint colours sometimes play together on the page. I encourage you to familiarize yourself with my sketches on this website or my Instagram page.

Q. Can I make a copy (either digital or print) of your sketch?

Under Canadian copyright law, I alone hold the copyright to my sketches, even commissioned ones. You may not scan and/or print the sketch that you purchase; however, I scan every sketch and am able to make prints for you.
